​Bertram is at the junction of Farm Roads 243 and 1174 and&nbsp;State Highway 29, ten miles east of Burnet in eastern&nbsp;Burnet County. The town was established in 1882, when the community of San Gabriel (near the&nbsp;San Gabriel River) in Burnet County was moved two miles northwest to the newly constructed&nbsp;Austin and Northwestern Railroad. The new community was named for Austin merchant Rudolph Bertram, the largest stockholder in the Austin and Northwestern.​

Austin is the state capital of Texas, an inland city bordering the Hill Country region. Home to the University of Texas flagship campus, Austin is known for its eclectic live-music scene centered around country, blues and rock. Its many parks and lakes are popular for hiking, biking, swimming and boating. South of the city, Formula One's Circuit of the Americas raceway has hosted the United States Grand Prix.
Residents of Austin are known as&nbsp;Austinites.&nbsp;They include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, musicians, high-tech workers, digital marketers, and&nbsp;blue-collar workers. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as "The Live Music Capital of the World", a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues, as well as the long-running&nbsp;PBS&nbsp;TV concert series&nbsp;Austin City Limits.&nbsp;The city also adopted "Silicon Hills" as a nickname in the 1990s due to a rapid influx of technology and development companies. In recent years, some Austinites have adopted the unofficial slogan "Keep Austin Weird",&nbsp;which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations.&nbsp;Since the late 19th century, Austin has also been known as the "City of the Violet Crown", because of the colorful glow of light across the hills just after sunset.
In 1987, Austin originated and remains the site for&nbsp;South by Southwest&nbsp;(stylized as SXSW and colloquially referred to as&nbsp;South By), an annual conglomeration of parallel&nbsp;film,&nbsp;interactive media, and&nbsp;music festivals&nbsp;and&nbsp;conferences that take place in mid-March. Emerging from a strong economic focus on government and education, since the 1990s, Austin has become a center for technology and business. A number of&nbsp;Fortune 500&nbsp;companies have headquarters or regional offices in Austin, including&nbsp;3M,&nbsp;Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

San Antonio is a major city in south-central Texas with a rich colonial heritage. The Alamo, an 18th-century Spanish mission preserved as a museum, marks an infamous 1836 battle for Texan independence from Mexico. Following the San Antonio River, the miles-long River Walk is a landmark pedestrian promenade lined with cafes and shops. HemisFair Park&rsquo;s 750-ft. Tower of the Americas overlooks the city.

Lubbock is a city in northwest Texas known as the birthplace of rock &rsquo;n&rsquo; roll legend Buddy Holly. The Buddy Holly Center celebrates his life and music with artifacts and mementos. Nearby is the West Texas Walk of Fame, with a statue of Holly and plaques honoring musicians from the region. The Museum of Texas Tech University houses millions of objects of art, history and paleontology, plus the Moody Planetarium.

Dallas is the epicenter of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and one of the business and cultural hubs in all the United States. In just the past 20 years, Dallas has been the scene of explosive growth in upper-scale lofts, apartments and condominiums, catering to upwardly mobile young professionals who crave access to art, culture, great food and entertainment. Dallas is home to some of the best public schools in the nation as well as to the NBA's Dallas Mavericks and the NHL's Dallas Stars.

Houston is a large metropolis in Texas, extending to Galveston Bay. It&rsquo;s closely linked with the Space Center Houston, the coastal visitor center at NASA&rsquo;s astronaut training and flight control complex. The city&rsquo;s relatively compact Downtown includes the Theater District, home to the renowned Houston Grand Opera, and the Historic District, with 19th-century architecture and upscale restaurants.
Comprising a total area of 637.4 square miles (1,651 km2), Houston is the eighth most expansive city in the United States (including consolidated city-counties). It is the largest city in the United States by total area, whose government is not consolidated with that of a county, parish or borough. Though primarily in Harris County, small portions of the city extend into Fort Bend and Montgomery counties, bordering other principal communities of Greater Houston such as Sugar Land and The Woodlands.
The city of Houston was founded by land investors on August 30, 1836, at the confluence of Buffalo Bayou and White Oak Bayou (a point now known as Allen's Landing) and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city is named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had won Texas' independence from Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles (40 km) east of Allen's Landing. After briefly serving as the capital of the Texas Republic in the late 1830s, Houston grew steadily into a regional trading center for the remainder of the 19th century.
The arrival of the 20th century saw a convergence of economic factors which fueled rapid growth in Houston, including a burgeoning port and railroad industry, the decline of Galveston as Texas' primary port following a devastating 1900 hurricane, the subsequent construction of the Houston Ship Channel, and the Texas oil boom. In the mid-20th century, Houston's economy diversified as it became home to the Texas Medical Center&mdash;the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions&mdash;and NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the Mission Control Center is located.

Corpus Christi is a coastal city in the South Texas region of the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat and largest city of Nueces County, it also extends into Aransas, Kleberg, and San Patricio Counties. It is 130 miles southeast of San Antonio. Its political boundaries encompass Nueces Bay and Corpus Christi Bay. Its zoned boundaries include small land parcels or water inlets of three neighboring counties.
The city's population was estimated to be 326,586 in 2019, making it the eighth-most populous city in Texas. The Corpus Christi metropolitan area had an estimated population of 442,600. It is also the hub of the six-county Corpus Christi-Kingsville Combined Statistical Area, with a 2013 estimated population of 516,793. The Port of Corpus Christi is the fifth-largest in the United States. The region is served by the Corpus Christi International Airport.

​El Paso is a city in and the county seat of El Paso County, Texas, United States. The 2020 population of the city from the U.S. Census Bureau was 678,815, making it the 22nd-largest city in the U.S. and the sixth-largest city in Texas.​

Tyler is a city in eastern Texas. It's known as a center for rose cultivation. In season, thousands of rose bushes line the manicured grounds of the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden. The Tyler Rose Museum explores the history of the city&rsquo;s annual Texas Rose Festival. Housed in an 1859 mansion set in landscaped LeGrand Park, the Goodman Museum features antique furnishings and Civil War&ndash;era medical artifacts.

​Midland is a city in western Texas. Part of the Permian Basin area, it’s an oil industry center. At the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, interactive exhibits detail the history of local oil exploration and include Boom Town, a replica 1930s oil town with a land office and general store. Dating from 1939, the George W. Bush Childhood Home has been restored to its 1950s state, when the 43rd president lived there.​
